Robert Berginc joined the police in December 1995, when he began working as a police officer at the Police Department in Ĺ empeter pri Gorici. In 2009, he continued his career as a senior criminal investigator specialist in the International Police Cooperation Division of the Criminal Police Directorate at the General Police Directorate. After graduating from the Police College in 2008, he continued his studies at the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security and graduated in criminal justice and studies. He then completed a postgraduate programme in law at the European Faculty of Law in Nova Gorica in 2013, defending his master's thesis on the standardisation of criminal intelligence products and obtaining a Master of Law degree.
After the establishment of the Criminal Intelligence Centre within the Criminal Police Directorate in 2011, he worked as an analyst until 2014, when he took over as the main coordinator of the national PNR (Passenger Name Record) project, established under the auspices of the European Commission, and, after the establishment of the Slovenian national unit, also assumed its management. In 2019, he was appointed Head of the Informant Handling Section, from where he continued his career in police education. As a lecturer in criminal law and chair of the study committee, he taught police cadets and police officers at the Police College, which is part of the Police Academy. In addition to his duties, he has also been involved in various working groups and with other state authorities on matters related to the prevention, detection and investigation of criminal offences.
On 1 July 2025, he became the director of the Nova Gorica Police Directorate.
