In the morning of 25 October 2009, someone threw a hand grenade into a group of young people who were leaving a bar in Kranj.

Police officers from Gorenjska have immediately started to intensively investigate the event; furthermore, other police directorates and units from Slovenia joined the investigation. Police officers in the area of the Novo mesto Police Directorate have already arrested four suspects.

Around 4.40 AM on 25 October 2009, in the direct vicinity of the entrance to the night club Million Club in Kranj, a 20-year-old, who was there with his girlfriend, and a 21-year-old, who came there together with a 25-year-old colleague and one other person, got into a quarrel. The quarrel turned into a fight between the 20-year-old and 25-year-old, whereby the first one hit with his hand the latter in the face; afterwards, other visitors came to the scene of the fight and separated the two persons. The 21-year-old and 25-year-old left towards the centre of Kranj together with another person, while the 20-year-old went towards Gimnazija Kranj with his girlfriend.

After a while, the 21-year-old and 25-year-old returned to the night club; the 20-year-old noticed this and informed his friends about it. In front of the entrance into the night club, they waited until the 21-year-old and 25-year-old approached. The 21-year-old started to provoke and invite the 20-year-old to a fight; when the latter together with his friends approached the 21-year-old, one of the persons from the group that included a 21-year-old, 25-year-old and their unknown colleague took a hand grenade and threw it against the coming group that included the 20-year-old. The hand grenade exploded in the direct vicinity of the entrance into the night club, where incidental visitors also stood.

Eight persons were injured and seven personal vehicles and two buses were damaged in the explosion; windows of hotel Creina were damaged as well.

In the evening of the same day, police officers noticed a vehicle of suspects driving towards the state border with Croatia. A police patrol wanted to stop the vehicle in the prescribed manner; however, the driver did not consider the signals of police offers and continued to drive. Therefore, the patrol started to follow the vehicle; however, the driver started to accelerate, which is why he drove off the road. Officers with service dogs also participated in the search of two suspects who ran away from the vehicle. The service dogs found the traces of suspects and have helped the police officers in a demanding terrain, so that the suspects were found and also arrested.

At the scene, police officers deprived the liberty of the 20-year-old driver and his 39-year-old passenger while the 21-year-old and 25-year-old suspects ran away from the vehicle. Therefore, the police officers from Novo mesto intensified their tasks, and the runaways were captured at 1.05 AM in the direct vicinity of the state border.

The Director of the Criminal Police Directorate M.A. Aleksander Jevšek praised the work of participating police officers and criminal police officers, since the suspects were traced and arrested in a relatively short time.

Around 60 police officers, 15 criminal police officers, 14 members of the Special Unit and other available patrols of Kranj, Postojna, Novo mesto and Krško Police Directorates and the Criminal Police Directorate cooperated in the search of suspects in the area of Ljubljana and Novo mesto. Meanwhile, a comprehensive inspection of the scene of crime was conducted, in which also the representatives of the Forensic Science Centre and police officers and criminal police officers of Kranj Police Directorate cooperated.
