On 23 January 2015, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia appointed Marjan Fank the new Director General of the Police, for a five-year term with the possibility of reappointment.

Marjan Fank was born in 1966 and holds a master's degree in security studies awarded by the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security. He has been employed with the police since 1984 and performed tasks at all levels of policing (police officer, assistant head and community policing officer, assistant commander of police station in the Ljubljana Police Directorate, criminal investigator, head of group, head of section of the Criminal Police Division in the Maribor Police Directorate). In 2010 he was appointed assistant Director of the Criminal Police Directorate in the General Police Directorate while in 2013 he became Director of the Criminal Police Directorate in the General Police Directorate.
