In Thörl Maglern, a village located at the Austrian-Italian border, the police chiefs of Slovenia, Austria and Italy met on Friday, 17 April 2015, to mark the 10th anniversary of the trilateral police cooperation centre.

Trije sefi policij Megvarje

The centre in Thörl Maglern was established in early May 2005 as a result of very good neighbourly cooperation in the field of security. The main purpose of its establishment was to strengthen the connections between the police forces of the three countries and to facilitate a more rapid exchange of information. During this time, police cooperation has been considerably enhanced in several areas of work, ranging from border control to crime repression, while the centre has effectively contributed to improving the security situation in this part of Europe. Moreover, this centre (along with the other such law enforcement centre in Dolga vas) was instrumental in eliminating initial fears of the border region population that security would be impaired after the accession to the Schengen area allowing free movement of persons. On the contrary, due to enhanced and facilitated cooperation between the police forces of the member states, we have been able to provide the population with the same or even higher level of protection of life and property than before abolishing internal borders controls.
