This summer, we organised a brand new opportunity for young people. From 26 to 28 August 2025 we held the first ever police summer camp at the police training centre in Gotenica, which we named KamPo (where-to-after high school).

We invited high school students interested in the police, the police profession, and employment opportunities with the police after high school to participate. We selected 20 participants from among the many applicants. They had the opportunity to learn about the work of the police, its specialties, equipment, and educational and career opportunities in the police force.

The first day was all about welcoming the participants, presenting the programme, and, most importantly, learning about the work of the uniformed police. Through a guided tour, the participants got a detailed insight into the work of the traffic and general police, participated in a simulated arrest of a criminal, accompanied mounted police officers and service dog handlers, and took on the role of members of a special police unit. The organizers also put significant emphasis on a discussion on the responsible use of social networks and the role that young people have in creating a safer environment.

On the second day the young participants were given an insight into the work of the criminal police. They visited a simulated crime scene, learned about the procedures for securing evidence and evaluating clues, and tested the investigative methods used by criminal investigators. The evening was dedicated to socializing and exchanging experiences with students from the Police College, who presented their studies and career paths in the police force.

The last day was dedicated to a more adrenaline-filled introduction to specialized police units. The young participants viewed the equipment and vehicles of the special unit, sat in an armoured vehicle, and experienced what it is like when it drives off-road. For the finale, pilots from the Air Support Unit took them up into the sky. The flight in a police helicopter and the ride in an armoured vehicle of the Special Unit were undoubtedly the moments that will stay with the young camp participants for a long time.

The closing ceremony on the last day was attended by parents, trainers, and the media. Participants received certificates and symbolic gifts, and the Police Orchestra also gave a performance. "When we put on our uniforms, we felt a special sense of pride and respect," said one of the young participants. The feelings were unanimous, and in addition to new knowledge, the camp also brought new friendships and teamwork experience.

Participants cheer happily

Although this was only the first event of its kind, the interest of young people far exceeded the organizers' expectations. With the very positive feedback from the participants and parents the police are already considering making KamPo a traditional project that would open its doors to students interested in a career in the police force every year.
