At the beginning of May, the Police were notified that individuals had been receiving suspicious text messages claiming to be from the "Slovenian Traffic Police". The messages falsely inform recipients that they have committed a traffic offence and direct them to a particular website. In most cases, the messages originate from foreign telephone numbers.
The Police would like to warn the public that these messages are fraudulent and have not been sent by them. The Police never notify individuals of traffic offences by text message. These fraudulent messages are typically intended to persuade recipients to access fake websites, make payments into fraudulent accounts, or disclose personal and banking details, potentially resulting in financial loss or the misuse of personal information.
Anyone who receives such a message is advised not to respond, not to enter any personal or banking details on any linked websites, and to promptly delete the message. If the recipient has suffered financial loss or disclosed personal information, they can report the matter at the nearest police station or submit a report online.
