After yesterday, 4 June 2026, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia appointed Danijel Lorbek as acting Director General of the Police, following a proposal by the Minister of the Interior, a handover ceremony was held today at the General Police Administration. On this occasion, Lorbek issued a statement to the media today.
Upon taking office, Danijel Lorbek said that he was aware of the responsibility of this position and that his job was to ensure that the police would continue to be successful, professional, and lawful in the performance of their tasks.
He sees the Slovenian police as a professional, stable and effective organisation, which works to keep residents of Slovenia safe every day: "My task is to ensure the smooth and lawful operation of the police and the continuity of all key tasks. I will pay special attention to supporting police officers and all employees who perform their duties professionally, responsibly, and often under challenging circumstances. People’s safety remains our top priority."
He also pointed out that his priorities include ensuring an adequate number of trained police officers, strengthening safety in local communities, and effectively addressing all forms of crime.
Lorbek said that he intended to use the coming days to familiarise himself in greater detail with the current challenges, pending tasks, and priorities in each area of policing. "In my work, I will champion professionalism, accountability and cooperation."
During the handover ceremony, Acting Director General of Police Danijel Lorbek thanked his predecessor, outgoing Director General of Police Damjan Petrič, for his work to date. Petrič, in turn, congratulated his successor on his appointment and wished him success in leading the police in the future.
