Police officers from Bovec Police Station, together with firefighters, mountain rescue teams and other emergency services, continued an intensive search today (17 June 2026) for the missing 43-year-old Slovak national. The search is focused primarily on the wider Log pod Mangartom area.
According to the information gathered so far, Miroslav Hutira entered Slovenia from Italy by bicycle on Friday, 12 June 2026, in the Goriška region, and then continued his journey via Čepovan towards the Tolmin area.
The following day, Saturday 13 June 2026, at 6.28 am, he set off from Tolmin on a yellow Kellys mountain bike in the direction of Log pod Mangartom (Bovec municipality), where, according to data from his cycling app, he is believed to have arrived several hours later. At around 7 pm that evening, he sent a message to his family saying he was looking for somewhere to stay in the area. After that, his mobile phone could no longer be reached, and it has not been possible to contact him since.
The missing 43-year-old Miroslav Hutira from Slovakia is described as approximately 170 cm tall, of medium build and with short dark brown hair.
Yesterday afternoon, a large-scale search operation was launched, coordinated by Bovec Police Station, involving Bovec police officers, firefighters and mountain rescuers. A helicopter from the Air Support Unit also assisted in the search, while local firefighters used drones to survey the difficult terrain.
Search teams covered tourist and hiking trails around Log pod Mangartom, the Loška Koritnica and Možnica valleys, the village of Strmec, the road to Mangart and Mangart Saddle, as well as numerous other paths in the surrounding area. Despite extensive efforts, the missing Slovak national had not been found by the end of yesterday’s search operation, which was suspended at 7 pm.
The search operation resumed this morning, 17 June 2026, with teams carrying out with further searches of the area.
