We are publishing the results of the national 'Safely without alcohol and drugs' campaign held during the week of 15 to 21 June 2026. Police officers across the country were checking if the drivers were under the influence of alcohol, illicit drugs, psychoactive drugs and other psychoactive substances.
During the week-long campaign, 9,705 drivers underwent breathalyser tests and 1,025 drivers rapid drug tests, as 258 drivers were found driving under the influence of alcohol and 36 under the influence of drugs. The police detained 12 people for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and temporarily suspended 217 driving licences.
The enforcement operation was part of the national prevention campaign 'Safely without Alcohol and Drugs', coordinated by the Slovenian Traffic Safety Agency.
The aim of the enforcement campaign is to prevent irresponsible behaviour on the roads, as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs unfortunately remains one of the main causes of the most serious road accidents in Slovenia. The cause of one in ten road accidents is still alcohol-related, and drivers under the influence of alcohol are responsible for 25 to 30 per cent of fatal road accidents.
