This week, from 7 to 11 April 2008, an exercise is being conducted on a part of the external Schengen border in Slovenia involving the Slovenian police and the representatives of other European police forces deployed by Frontex - European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders of the EU Member States.
Rapid Border Intervention Teams (RABIT), consisting of Slovenian and 30 foreign police officers that have been deployed by Frontex to participate in the joint exercise in Slovenia, will perform tasks of state border control. In this manner, the exercise of powers by the members of Rapid Border Intervention Teams will be examined in practice, while the Frontex Agency will examine the logistical implementation of the exercise.
On Thursday, 10 April 2008, at 11.00 hours, a press conference will be organised at the Police Station Podlehnik of the Police Directorate Maribor (Podlehnik 8c, 2286 Podlehnik), where the purpose and course of the joint exercise as well as the activities of Rapid Border Intervention Teams will be presented in more detail. The press conference will be attended by Danijel Lorbek, Head of Border Police Division in the Uniformed Police Directorate, General Police Directorate, and Gil Arias, Deputy Executive Director of the Frontex Agency. After the press conference, media representatives will be able to have a tour of the border crossing point and take photographs or shoot video footage of the police officers participating in the exercise.
