Owing to low levels of traffic and inadequate infrastructure for the work of border authorities, the Izola (Isola) border crossing point for international maritime traffic will close tomorrow.
On 16 June 2011 the Government adopted the decision to issue a Decree amending the Decree on determining border crossing points for international and interstate traffic of the Republic of Slovenia on the external border of the European Union, closing the Izola (Isola) border crossing point for international maritime traffic. The amended decree was published in the Official Gazette RS, no. 47/2011.
The border crossing point is closing due to scarce traffic and inadequate infrastructure for the work of border authorities in agreement with the Municipality of Izola, which operates and maintains the border crossing point. The Izola (Isola) border crossing point for international maritime traffic is a 'seasonal' border crossing. Passengers and vessels only used this border crossing point during the summer tourist season, i.e. in July and August, while during the rest of the year it could happen that no vessel landed for several days in a row.
The Police will continue to perform border checks of passengers on the Prince of Venice catamaran on route from Croatia via Slovenia to Italy and back.
Border crossing points for international maritime traffic Piran (Pirano) and Koper (Capodistria) remain to be open 24 hours a day.
