Janez Novak, police chaplain, and Sanja Repše, of the Uniformed Police Directorate, received the Light of Peace from Bethlehem on 16 December 2008, in the entrance of the Ministry of the Interior and the Police, Štefanova 2, Ljubljana.
The Light of Peace was brought by members of the Slovenian Catholic Scout Association, the Brotherhood of Adult Catholic Scouts, the Slovenian Scouts Organisation of the Austrian regions bordering Slovenia, the Scout Association of Slovenia and the Youth Guild.
The flame of the Light of Peace is delivered by a boy or girl scout who has been especially successful in the year
On the occasion of the first such visit paid to the police, the police chaplain Janez Novak expressed his thanks and his wish for all of us to pause in the fast tempo of everyday life - this being the motto of this year's campaign Let this light shine in peace and joy rather than in sorrow in the events of traffic and other accidents.
The Light of Peace from Bethlehem is a traditional campaign carried out in December, bearing a message of peace, a feeling of mutual connection, tolerance and co-operation among people. This year it was brought to Slovenia for the 18th time under the motto: "There is something you miss!"
Members of the above-mentioned organisations brought the flame from Vienna and have been visiting government institutions all this week. Before Christmas Eve, the Light of Peace will tour Slovenia.
The project was launched by the Austrian television ORF in 1986. The initiator of the campaign wishes for the Light of Peace from Bethlehem to burn for as many families throughout Europe as possible and to bring them peace.
