On 4 January 2012 Director General of the Police Janko Goršek symbolically handed the keys of a mobile police station over to Director of Kranj Police Directorate Simon Velički. The Kranj police officers will be the first to test it, followed by other police directorates. The vehicle is mostly intended for preventive, but also operational work.

This is a new project for the Slovenian police. The mobile police station supports the work carried out by police officers in local communities with a police vehicle equipped for the duties usually performed by officers at a police station and in the field. This method of work is a new development here but has long been present in other European Union member states. Our introduction of this new method is modelled on that of the United Kingdom and Germany. With this project, we want to bring police services closer to the population in the areas where there are no police stations present.
