The Slovenian Civil Protection and Rescue Administration declared very high fire risk in the natural environment under the Decree on Protection against Fire in the Natural Environment as of 30 July 2026 in the municipalities of Koper, Sežana, Divača, Hrpelje–Kozina, Komen, Nova Gorica, Miren–Kostanjevica and Renče–Vogrsko. High fire risk in the natural environment has been declared in all other municipalities in Slovenia.

This means that setting fires and discarding burning or other objects or materials that may cause a fire is prohibited in natural environments throughout the country. It is also prohibited to light fires or set fires in areas near infrastructure facilities, to light bonfires, to use objects or devices, or carry out activities that may cause a fire outside built-up areas, and to set off fireworks.
Please note that there is also a ban on burning waste outdoors (Article 10 of the Decree on Waste). Burning green garden waste (cuttings and trimmings) in the open air also constitutes a breach of the Decree on Waste, as households that do not have their own compost bin are required to hand over the green garden waste to the public municipal waste collection service provider.
During the high fire risk, the compliance with the Decree on Fire Protection in the Natural Environment is also monitored by the police.
