On the afternoon of Monday, 17 March 2025, police officers responded to a report of a fire at a residential property in the Šiška district of Ljubljana. Upon arrival, the house was already engulfed in flames. Two people were calling for help from the first floor, unable to evacuate on their own.
Despite the staircase being ablaze, two police officers bravely ascended it to reach the trapped individuals. They found two immobile elderly residents and covered them with blankets before carrying them to safety down the only available route—the burning staircase. The officers then also assisted another person who had been trying to extinguish the fire on the ground floor, escorting them safely out of the building.
We commend our colleagues from Ljubljana Šiška Police Station for their bravery and selfless commitment to saving lives.
The fire was extinguished by firefighters. According to initial reports, the fire started from a gas stove in a neighbouring shed and quickly spread to the adjacent residential house. Thanks to the swift response by the police, no one was injured in the incident. However, the incident caused thousands of euros in property damage. A criminal forensic investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire is still ongoing. The findings will be reported to the competent public prosecutor's office.
