On 17 January 2008, the Director General of the Police, Jože Romšek, and the Minister of the Interior, Dragutin Mate, presented awards to the most outstanding officials of the Police and the Ministry of the Interior for their achievements in preparations of the Republic of Slovenia to join the Schengen area.
Awards were presented as follows:

The Great Police Shield with a Bronze Star for important achievements in strengthening security
- Dušan Kerin, Head of the International Police Cooperation Division, General Police Directorate
The Gold Police Shield for longstanding research and development contribution in the police
- Danijel Lorbek, Head of the Border Police Division, Uniformed Police Directorate, General Police Directorate
The Silver Police Shield for important work achievements in the police
- Muris Begovič, Head of the Personnel Organisation and Development Division, General Police Directorate
- Janja Bizjak, Assistant Director of the Logistics Office, General Police Directorate
- mag. Andrej Bračko, Director of the IT and Telecommunications Office, General Police Directorate
- Robert Furman, Service of the Director-General of the Police, General Police Directorate
- Melita Močnik, Border Police Division, Uniformed Police Directorate, General Police Directorate
