We have been receiving many questions regarding modes of transiting Slovenian territory when travelling to another country. That is why we are publishing a clarification regarding entry to Slovenia when transiting to another country (updated on 14 July 2021).

Important!

Same conditions for all travellers entering Slovenia to apply from 15 July, for transit through Slovenia as of 16 August. More information: Vaccinated-tested-recovered rule not required for transit and international transport until 15 August 2021

For most recent information on entry requirements, please go to the government web site Border Crossing

Prior transit permits are not issued.

Prior permits to enter and transit through Slovenia are not issued. The fulfilment of conditions for crossing the border (entry to and transit through Slovenia) is checked at the border crossing point during border control on the day of crossing the border.

As of 16 August 2021, transit through Slovenia possible if you meet RVT (recovered/vaccinated/tested) condition

Anyone seeking to transit Slovenia and passengers in international transport will need to fulfil the RVT (recovered/vaccinated/tested) requirement from 16 August, 2021.

In addition to a valid travel document (or visa and residence permit if required), you will also need a document proving the purpose and destination of your journey (applicable to non-EU residents only) and proof of your status of recovery from Covid-19 or your vaccination against Covid-19 or a negative test (RVT).

You will not be permitted entry if you are unable to leave Slovenia due to measures in place in neighbouring countries.

There is an exception in place applying to persons with no residence in Slovenia if upon entering they declare that they are positive for Covid-19 or show signs of infection of Covid-19. They will be permitted to transit through Slovenia even if they do not meet the RVT (recovered/vaccinated/tested) requirement on condition that they adhere to recommendations of the National Institute of Public Health, travel without stopping, with their own means of transport, and if they can unequivocally prove that their reason for entering is to transit Slovenia.

6-hour slot to transit Slovenia for persons under quarantine orders by other states

The RVT (recovered/vaccinated/tested) condition does not apply to a person who has been ordered by another state to quarantine due to exposure to a Covid-19 infected person and who wishes to quarantine in the country of their choice while meeting the requirements to enter this country. Following a prior announcement of the competent authority, the police will permit such a person to enter Slovenia and let them travel through if they use their own means of transport, take the shortest transit route and leave the country within 6 hours of entering.

What does “transit” mean?

This means that a person must exit Slovenia within this period and must travel through Slovenia without making unnecessary or redundant stops or leaving the main transit route. While transiting, passengers may attend to necessary things such as fill up the gas tank, stop for physiological needs (drink, food, toilet, etc.), but may not stay overnight.
