The latest amendments to the rules for entry into Slovenia will take effect on Friday, 16 April 2021, and will bring some changes to the exceptions on entry. Two vaccines have now been added to the list enabling quarantine-free entry into Slovenia.

The list of vaccines, which already includes COMIRNATY BioNTech/Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca, now also lists:

• Sputnik V vaccine by Russia’s Gamaleya National Centre of Epidemiology and Microbiology, and

• Janssen COVID-19 vaccine of the Johnson&Johnson.

People vaccinated with Sputnik and Janssen may enter the country provided they have received the first dose at least 21 days ago.

Changes to the exceptions for quarantine-free and test-free entry

• Time allowed for transiting Slovenia has been extended from 6 to 12 hours.

• Over 15-year-olds attending school across the border on a daily basis and those who drive commuting pupils and students across the border will no longer need to show a negative test (the requirement to show a negative test taken within the last seven days has been removed).

• Travel of urgent nature now includes business reasons.

• The exception for persons owning and leasing land in the border area (or on both sides of the border) is now expanded to include their close family members or same household members (with a permanent or temporary residence registered at the same address) when they travel together.

Changes to the exceptions for quarantine-free entry with a negative PCR or RAT test taken within the last seven days

Persons crossing the border for purposes such as family matters, parental care, child visitation rights or contacts with spouse, cohabiting partner, partner of a formal or non-formal civil union can make a quarantine-free entry into Slovenia provided that they show a PCR or RAT test taken within the last seven days and return within 72 hours of crossing the border. This exception includes family members or household members (permanently or temporarily residing in the same address) provided that they travel with the entitled person.

A new exception for quarantine-free entry with a negative PCR or RAT test taken within the last three days

Quarantine-free entry into Slovenia with a negative PCR or RAT test taken within the last three days is possible for citizens of EU or Schengen area countries providing care or assistance to persons in need of such care, or providing maintenance works at a private property or land if they return within 48 hours after crossing the border. The exception pertaining to maintenance work also includes close family members or household members when travelling together with the person invoking this exception.

Red list of countries

The red list of EU Member States and Schengen Area States was amended to include changes with respect to Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Norway and Spain while Portugal and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland have been removed from the list.
