From 12 to 18 January 2026, the nationwide Focus on the Road campaign was carried out, organised by the Slovenian Traffic Safety Agency in cooperation with the Police.

Driver driving with cell phone in hand, pedestrian in front of him

The campaign aimed to raise awareness of the risks associated with the use of mobile phones and other distractions while driving. In light of the deterioration in road safety recorded last year, the joint message at the beginning of this year was particularly clear and firm: when participating in road traffic, focus on one thing only – the road.

During the campaign, police officers also carried out intensified traffic enforcement. Across the country, they detected 1,300 offences under Article 35 of the Road Traffic Rules Act, which prohibits the use of devices or equipment that impair a driver’s hearing or vision, or their ability to control the vehicle. Warnings were issued in 52 cases. Of all offenders identified, 80 were foreign nationals.

Greater focus for fewer traffic accidents

Diverting a driver’s attention away from the road – most commonly due to mobile phone use – reduces concentration and the ability to process information from the surroundings, significantly increasing the risk of traffic accidents. A focused driver therefore contributes to safer roads for all road users. Phones and messages can wait; road safety cannot.

A similar enforcement campaign is scheduled to take place from 5 to 11 October 2026. It will be coordinated at European level with national traffic police authorities and conducted under the common title Focus on the Road.
