On 18 September, Slovenian police officers joined the European Day Without a Road Death campaign by holding a control day as part of the European mobility week, which took place from 16 to 22 September 2024.

At the control day police officers across Slovenia were targeting speeding drivers and tailgating. The campaign was part of the Roadpol Safety Days, when all participating countries promote responsible traffic behaviour.

Police officers from all the Traffic Police Stations and the Specialised Unit for Traffic Control were controlling speeding and tailgating between 10:00 and 17:00. They detected 113 speeding drivers as well as 192 cases of tailgating, of which 71 involved cargo vehicles and 121 passenger cars.

The toll of the annual traffic safety campaign day sadly included one fatality in a serious road accident that took place at 23:50 in the area of Nova Gorica.

Police officers would like to make another appeal for drivers to drive safely and respect traffic safety rules. We cannot control all the circumstances in traffic that can affect road safety, but we can control our own decisions and our driving. Please drive responsibly and save precious lives!
