The Ministry of the Interior has never limited volunteers, including NGO representatives, in their contacts with migrants.
In order to ensure smooth procedures with migrants, volunteers and NGO representatives alike are required to register. In the past days, some NGO staff, especially those from abroad, refused to register, which is why they were not allowed to deal with migrants.
Considering our capacity, the number of migrants and the peculiar circumstances in which they arrive, the police, civil protection units, the Slovenian army, volunteers and other support staff have spared no effort in managing and controlling this extremely critical situation. We emphasize that it is with tremendous efforts that we have been keeping the situation under control.
The police treat migrants in a humane way. Nevertheless, handling such masses is an extremely demanding task. Moreover, all staff working in the field are close to burning out, pushing themselves to the limits to make sure migrants are taken care of.
Our sincere thanks goes out to each and every person involved in tackling this extraordinary situation for their dedicated hard work, sacrifice and patience.
