In addition to Friday's photo exhibition "Overlooked", the Police treated their employees to another cultural event on the occasion of International Women's Day – a concert by the Police Orchestra on Saturday night.
Conducted by Nejc Bečan, the orchestra played a series of beautiful pieces, from dreamy to energetic. There were two guest apperances: the superb cellist Maruša Bogataj Turjak and the outstanding young singer Saša Lešnjek.
The main themes of the programme were love, mutual respect, hope, longing, imagination, timeless beauty, faith in a better world ...
Among the musical works performed were Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, Ellerby's Symphony for Winds in three movements and de Meij's Elegy and Scherzo, featuring the cellist Maruša Bogataj Turjak.
Soloist Saša Lešnjek sang some popular Slovenian songs: Prisluhni mi, Lastovka, Na krilih hrepenenja, Ko tvoje pot od tod and Ljubi, ljubi, ljubi, ljubi to the accompaniment of the orchestra. Finally, for a memorable end to the evening, the orchestra played Mackey's "Kingfishers Catch Fire", about colourful kingfishers flying out into the sunlight.
The director Tomaž Letnar evoked a wide range of emotions in the audience with an interesting interplay of music, selected poetry interpreted by the actor Klemen Janežič, and rich visual effects. The whole event was a real balm for the soul and a feast for the eyes, not just for the ears!
Saturday’s concert in the Gallus Hall of the Cankarjev Dom was attended by employees of the Police and the Ministry of the Interior, as well as many external guests and other visitors, lovers of quality music.
