On the afternoon of 7 July 2025, the Nova Gorica police were informed of an altercation between two German nationals in the car park of a restaurant in Solkan. Upon arrival at the scene, a member of the public alerted the police officers that a woman had jumped into the Soča River (the police later determined that the 27-year-old woman had thrown herself into the water to end a dispute with a 24-year-old man).

The police officers immediately ran down the ramp to the riverbank and spotted her in the water. As the river current carried her toward the railway bridge, the woman screamed, waved her arms frantically, and tried, unsuccessfully, to reach the shore.

The female police officer jumped into the river without hesitation and pulled the woman to the shore, assisted by her male colleague. With their quick response and selflessness, they saved the woman's life.

The woman was examined by the medical team that also arrived at the scene and was unharmed. The incident once again confirms the important role of the police in protecting people's lives and safety. The courage and dedication shown by the police officers from the Nova Gorica Police Station deserve praise and respect.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind citizens to be careful when near water and to act responsibly in case of danger.
