Under the Swedish presidency of the EU Council, the task force discussed the development strategy of police and bodies responsible in the countries of the EU for detection and investigation of criminal offences.
Another focus of the discussion was intended to be the development and strengthening of cooperation of national police and Europol in relation to international civil missions located in crisis areas. Namely, the use of sources of European countries to fight organised crime has to be improved. Police chiefs prepared recommendations regarding data exchange that would improve the long-term planning of the use of personnel in international civil missions. Furthermore, they invited the EU Council to study and consider some of their recommendations also in the preparation of the new five-year programme for justice and internal affairs.
The European Police Chiefs Task Force is a forum, the members of which are the highest representatives of police organisations of EU Member States. As a rule, police chiefs or their deputies in EU Member States participate in its meetings as heads of delegations; in these meetings, strategic and operational decisions are made on common operations of police organisations in the EU.
