Director General of the Police Stanislav Veniger met with the Director-General for Public Security Konrad Kogler in Vienna on 28 May.
Both men agreed that the cooperation between the Slovenian police and Austrian law enforcement authorities, especially the police, is excellent. Slovenia and Austria cooperate within regional initiatives, such as the Salzburg Forum and Brdo Process, and in the framework of law enforcement cooperation centres Thörl-Maglern and Dolga vas. The countries already have some experience concerning the secondment of joint liaison officers to third countries, which is co-financed by the European Union. The Slovenian and Austrian interior ministries thus help each other in applying for European funds, i.e. co-financing the secondment of liaison officers. The police chiefs agreed that an important project for this year is to prepare and potentially sign a protocol between Austria and Slovenia on amending the agreement on police cooperation between the countries, which will upgrade the agreement currently in force.
