Jože Senica, Assistant Director General of the Police, attended the fourth United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit that took place in New York from 26 to 28 June 2024. The summit brought together ministers, police chiefs and other senior representatives from police organisations around the world.
Throughout the general discussion and a series of side events, participants addressed key challenges related to peacekeeping missions and other aspects of global police cooperation. The Assistant Director General was joined at the summit by Robert Črepinko, who has served as Police Adviser at the Permanent Mission of Slovenia to the United Nations since 1 January of this year.
In his address, Mr Senica emphasised Slovenia's belief in the need for innovative approaches to preserve peace. He also highlighted the importance of addressing cybercrime and environmental crime, as well as implementing measures to protect cultural heritage in areas where international missions are deployed. Utilising modern technologies and providing targeted training for international representatives are crucial in preparing the UN for future challenges.
During his visit to the Permanent Mission of Slovenia to the United Nations, Mr Senica also met with Ambassador Samuel Žbogar, with whom he discussed the challenges facing current peacekeeping mechanisms.
