Every year in June, the Slovenian police mark their day with various events, celebrations and other activities. Today, 27 June 2024, we commemorated it with a national celebration at the Brdo Congress Centre.
Mag. Jušić: "27 June 1991 has earned its rightful place in history"
In his address, the Director General of the Police said that soon after the declaration of independence, events had occurred which may not have merited the status of a national holiday, but which have certainly earned their place in history: 'One such event took place on 27 June 1991, when police officers clashed with the Yugoslav People's Army at the Holmec border crossing. This was one of the major armed attempts by the Yugoslav authorities to take away our right to our own country. The heroic actions of the police prevented this."
He concluded by saying, "Today, we can proudly say that Slovenia is a great country to live in – despite all the challenges, we have been among the safest countries in the world for almost two decades. So, on this occasion, let me express a modest but really important wish – that security is recognised as this country's most precious asset."
Poklukar: "Slovenian police are able to adapt quickly to modern security challenges, making Slovenia one of the safest countries in the world"
Minister of the Interior Boštjan Poklukar pointed out that Slovenia, like the entire European Union, is facing a changed environment of internal security. He commended and congratulated all police officers for their courageous and dedicated work in ensuring a high level of public security and order in Slovenia.
"This is your country and you are its pride! You make it beautiful because safe is beautiful."
The event, which was mainly aimed at our internal public, i.e. the Police and the Ministry of the Interior employees, was directed by Tomaž Letnar, who in his script intertwined the beauty of Slovenia with police work. The musical part of the cultural programme was once again provided by the always superb Police Orchestra, with a guest appearance by the young vocalist Nina Strnad and her jazz interpretation of Slovenian songs.
On the sidelines of the ceremony, a presentation of police work was held in Kranj
The Police Day was also an opportunity to present our work. In the Slovenian Square in Kranj, we demonstrated some of the most interesting aspects of policing, including some equipment, devices and vehicles, as well as service animals.
Tribute was also paid to the memory of deceased police officers
Every year, on Police Day, we commemorate the historic events of 1991, in which we actively participated and which led to the independence of our country. We remember former colleagues who gave their lives for their country during the War of Independence.
