In recent days, there has been increased traffic, road congestion, and delays along major routes. As the school holidays begin and the peak tourist season approaches, traffic volumes are expected to rise again next week – and unfortunately, traffic jams may be difficult to avoid.
Heavy traffic is likely to continue throughout the summer, particularly on roads leading to popular holiday destinations. The worst congestion is expected at weekends and on public holidays, when most people are setting off or returning from their trips.
Police advise drivers to stay informed and avoid peak travel times where possible
For anyone planning a journey in the coming days or weeks, the key message is patience.
Drivers can also help ease congestion by carefully following traffic regulations and complying with instructions from road authorities and operators. Stay informed by checking traffic updates regularly and, where possible, plan your travel outside of peak times. Bring plenty of non-alcoholic drinks, take regular breaks to rest and do not forget to pack any medication you may need for the journey.
Launching the Safe Summer Travels campaign with the Traffic Safety Agency
On 20 June 2025, the nationwide Safe Summer Travels road safety campaign launches, running through to the end of August. Organised by the Slovenian Road Safety Agency in cooperation with the Police and other partners, the campaign aims to raise awareness of key risks on the roads during the busy summer months.
The campaign encourages drivers to be more responsible, alert and considerate – even when their thoughts may already be on holiday. The message is clear: follow traffic regulations carefully, adapt to road conditions, drive defensively and pay particular attention to the most vulnerable road users – pedestrians, cyclists, e-scooter riders, moped users and motorcyclists.
