On 29 January 2008, Matjaž Šinkovec, Deputy Director General of the Police, gave a reception, at the General Police Directorate, to the police officer, Aleš Grudnik, who is to leave for the general session of the UN Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations (C-34) held in New York, USA.
The members of the Committee, which holds its sessions twice a year, decide on future peace-support operations.

The reception was attended also by Bojan Lunežnik, a member of the interdepartmental working group for the implementation of the law on secondment to peacekeeping missions of international organizations, by Marko Gašperlin, assistant director of the Uniformed Police Directorate, and by Boris Kankaraš from the Security Planning and Peacekeeping Missions Section within the Uniformed Police Directorate of the General Police Directorate, who is responsible for the Special Committee.

In 2000-2001, Aleš Grudnik participated as an instructor in the West European Union Mission in Albania. After his return, he took part in selections, training and preparations of police officers for various peacekeeping missions. In 2005, he took up his appointment in the Jordan International Police Training Centre, where he performed duties as a police inspector, and as the leader of the Slovenian police contingent.
Since at the time being Slovenia is presiding over the EU Council, Aleš Grudnik, as the representative of the Slovenian Police in the USA, will represent the EU position on peacekeeping missions.
