The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims was marked by the lighting of candles in Prešeren Square in memory of the victims of road traffic accidents with most tragic consequences.
The lighting of candles was also attended by acting Minister of the Interior Aleš Zalar and Head of the Traffic Police Division at the General Police Directorate mag. Ivan Kapun, who pointed out that police officers - the first to arrive at the scene of an accident - are very closely involved in tragic events. "Confronting serious injuries or even death, investigating these types of accidents and informing the next of kin that they have lost those dearest to them are all extremely difficult for police officers to deal with. This is why we are particularly pleased to see that we are not alone in this," explained Kapun, adding that safety on Slovenian roads is every road user's responsibility.
