Yesterday, 6 July 2023, police officers from the Koper Traffic Police Station were carrying out speed checks with the Trucam laser speed camera on the A3 motorway. Two drivers stood out among the offenders, endangering themselves and others by driving much too fast.
Between Povir and Sežana, at around 21:30, police officers measured the speed of a Ferrari 458 Italia driving at 269 km/h. The driver, who was an Austrian citizen, was fined 1,200 euros and received nine penalty points.
Between Razdrto and Postojna, just after 23:00, police officers measured the speed of a BMW M8 driving at 292 km/h. The driver, who was a citizen of Slovenia, was also fined 1,200 euros and received nine penalty points.
Speeding - the main cause of road accidents
Speeding is a major cause of road accidents and has accounted for around one fifth of all road accidents in recent years. In fatal road accidents, the proportion is much higher – around 37% in recent years. The higher the speed, the more severe the consequences of the accident. That is why one of the tasks of the police is to reduce average speeds. Particularly in residential areas, even a minor breach of the speed limit can endanger the safety of vulnerable groups. Outside settlements, for example on motorways, the combination of fast driving and short safety distances between vehicles is problematic.
Therefore, the police would like to remind you once again: drivers, please adjust your speed to the speed limit, to your driving knowledge and experience, and to the road conditions.
