Two hundred new police officers were solemnly sworn in before the Director General of the Police, Janko Goršek, on 24 December 2009. After taking the oath, they acquired police officer status and will be assigned to police stations throughout the country.

Today's ceremony at the Police Academy in Tacen concluded training for 79 candidates on protection of the external European Union borders; training began on 1 July 2009 and was provided to future border police officers, who will protect the state and EU borders from international crime and illegal migration.
At the same time, 18 months of training was also concluded by 121 police officer candidates of the 9th generation, who started the training on 30 June 2008. They will work as police officers at general police stations. They will be responsible for numerous demanding tasks in various areas of policing, ensuring the safety of Slovenia's inhabitants.

The Director General of the Police, Janko Goršak, first welcomed all who were taking the oath and were awarded police officer status, congratulated them on their successful conclusion of training and wished them every success in their work. "Today is a significant milestone in your life; you are now on a difficult route to achieving your career goals. Well armed not only with police powers but also with the knowledge and skills you acquired at Tacen school, you are joining the ranks of older and more experienced colleagues, who carry out very responsible work," said Mr Goršek.
The Director General of the Police, Janko Goršek¸ and the Director of the Police Academy, Franc Kosmač, presented awards to the best candidate from each group.

The Principal of the Police Training School, Marko Podlesnik, congratulated all students who had successfully passed the examinations. "We are proud of you and happy to welcome you as colleagues into the Slovenian Police. We hope that you will continue your mission with the determination you have shown so far," said Mr Podlesnik. In his words, police officer candidates of the 9th generation distinguished themselves during their studies, practical training and in relations with other groups of candidates in the Police Academy.
"Respected Director General of the Police, on behalf of the Police Academy, I hand over to you today 200 new police officers and border police officers ready to assume their duties," said the Principal of the Police Training School and numerous police caps flew into the air.
