In the spirit of the European Capital of Culture 2025, we responded to the invitation from our colleagues in neighbouring Italy, and attended the celebration of the Italian Police Day, yesterday 10 April 2025. This year's celebration was symbolically held at the Europe Square (Italian: Piazza della Transalpina), which sits half in Italy and half in Slovenia.

Europe Square, the meeting point between Nova Gorica and Gorizia, was in fact the setting of the official opening ceremony of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025 Nova Gorica – Goriza on 8 February 2025, the Slovenian Cultural Holiday.

The representatives of the Nova Gorica Police Directorate and the General Police Directorate as well as the representatives of the Austrian police also attended yesterday’s Day of the Italian Police celebration, where the main speaker was Luigi Di Ruscio, the Questor of the State Police in Gorizia (Italy).

The successful long-standing cooperation between the Nova Gorica Police Directorate and the Italian law enforcement authorities is on a high professional level. The citizens and the police authorities of both countries in this border region share similar security challenges, namely the prevention of irregular migration through different joint operations (including mixed police patrols), joint road traffic controls and other activities focusing on prevention of cross-border crime.
