In January, the police took part in two nationwide education and career fairs. The Informativa fair was held at the Ljubljana Congress Centre on 9 and 10 January 2026, followed a week later, on 16 January, by the Where and How – Choose a Profession fair held at the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre.

Career fairs are an excellent opportunity for young people to obtain first-hand information through direct, face-to-face contact with potential employers. As an attractive employer and provider of vocational education, the Slovenian police were pleased to take part.

The lively buzz of young visitors and the crowds at our exhibition stand at the Informativa fair clearly demonstrated the strong interest in a career in the police. Participating officers could barely keep up with all the questions. Watch the video
Our well-seasoned team was highly motivated and in good spirits, generously sharing useful information with all interested visitors —particularly on education, recruitment and career opportunities within the police. In addition to talking with police officers, visitors were able to take a closer look at police gear and vehicles from various units, try on a protective police vest, test a breathalyser, and much more.

Young people in particular enjoy talking with our police officers and criminal investigators. Any initial hesitation or stage fright when approaching an official is soon replaced by a relaxed conversation, often accompanied by laughter.

The Director General of the Police, Damjan Petrič, also expressed his support for our efforts to encourage as many candidates as possible to pursue a career in the police force.

We were delighted by the visit of the President of the Republic, Nataša Pirc Musar, who took a keen interest in the police exhibition stand and exchanged a few words with police officers.

Outside the entrance to the Ljubljana Congress Centre, police horses (pictured) attracted great admiration, while inside the venue special enthusiasm was sparkled by a police dog handler and his canine partners.

At the lecture “Choose Wisely – Choose a Profession That Matters”, held as part of the Informativa fair, participants learned what police work really looks like, the tasks performed by different units, how training at the Police College is organised, which personal qualities and skills are essential for the job, and what career paths and specialisations await recruits after joining the police.

In addition to police officers, one of the highlights of our presentation was influencer Franko Bajc, who, for the purposes of his documentary The Path of the Panthers, took part in authentic Special Unit training. Alongside him, a masked member of the Special Unit spoke about service in the police’s most elite unit, readiness for the most demanding tasks, and the importance of team spirit and solidarity.

Visitors were also shown a vintage police car.

One of the biggest crowd-pleasers at the fairs is always our top “model” among police officers—the ever-smiling Leon.

At career fairs, police officers are happy to answer all your questions. Take advantage of such opportunities and meet us in person – we highly recommend it.
