On 23 November 2009, the Minister of the Interior, Ms Katarina Kresal, visited her Macedonian counterpart, Ms Gordana Jankulovska. Ms Kresal was accompanied on the two-day visit by the Director-General of the Police, Mr Janko Goršek.

The ministers chiefly discussed visa liberalisation. Macedonia was indeed the first country in the region to meet all the conditions for visa liberalisation; Slovenia therefore proposed that the visa-free regime take effect from 19 December 2009.

Ms Kresal and Ms Jankulovska stressed the good cooperation of both ministries and police forces. They also signed a  Donation Agreement, Since the Slovenian Police decided to donate to the Macedonian Police three Foster & Freeman devices for document examination, which are the subject of the above agreement.

During the talks, also attended by Mr Goršek, both ministers also discussed the introduction of the joint investigation units in the Western Balkans and cooperation in the training of the border police, in implementation of the Schengen Information System in Macedonia and in the introduction of electronic commerce in the population registry.
