The Director General of the Police, Janko Goršek, and the Minister of the Interior, Katarina Kresal, today paid a visit to the Special Unit and congratulated their members on taking second place in the Police Special Unit World Championship.
Over forty units from all five continents attended the competition, which took place between 4 and 9 June near the German city of Cologne. The Slovenian Police Special Unit finished second overall, which is a great result.
Mr Goršek and Ms Kresal congratulated the members of the Special Unit on achieving this excellent result and wished them every success in competition and their operational work generally. Mr Goršek emphasised the importance of the Special Unit for the Slovenian Police as it performs the most demanding tasks in counter-terrorist activity, takes part in the apprehension of the perpetrators of the most serious criminal offences, in the protection of the highest-ranking domestic and international dignitaries, and the security of certain premises. It also assists in police activities at serious natural and other disasters.
