On 15 and 16 July 2023, the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship took place in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, under the auspices of the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation (JJIF). Slovenia was represented by our colleague Tim Toplak, accompanied by his coach Gorazd Toplak. Both are employed by the Slovenian Police.
Tim did a great job at the championship and won a bronze medal. This adds to his list of international successes – the new medal joins the bronze he won at the World Games, the gold, the silver and two bronzes from the World Championships, and two golds and two silvers from the European Championships.
Tim Toplak is a world and European champion, bronze medallist at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham. He competes in the 69 kg division and is a member of the Shinto Ljubljana Jiu-Jitsu Club. In his category, which is one of the heavier ones, 17 fighters from 11 countries competed this year. The 2023 World Championship was attended by teams from 42 countries with just under 500 competitors.
