In early October we received an initiative from the Austrian law enforcement authorities to cooperate in migration flow management. Within the framework of such cooperation and under the Prüm Treaty, Slovenia confirmed the deployment of eight Austrian police officers, who started their work on 13 October 2015.

In the initial stage, Austrian officers will perform their work in the area of Maribor Police Directorate (Gruškovje Border Police Station and Maribor Police Station for Compensatory Measures) and Murska Sobota Police Directorate (Petišovci Border Police Station and Murska Sobota Police Station for Compensatory Measures). Depending on the situation, their operations are subsequently to be extended to other units and, where necessary, to other police directorates.

Austrian officers perform their work in national police uniforms and accompanied by Slovenian officers. Prior to a potential mass arrival of migrants, they will perform routine tasks, mostly participating in border control at border crossing points and in compensatory measures within the country. In the event of an increased number of migrants they will be expected to assist the Slovenian officers in the registration of foreigners and handle the information exchange and coordination of activities between the Austrian and Slovenian law enforcement authorities.
