Having completed the Police Cadet School in Tacen in 1986, Evgen Govekar began his police career as an officer at the Ajdovščina Police Station. When he finished the Higher School for Internal Affairs in 1995, he spent one year working as a criminal investigator in the Criminal Police Division of the Nova Gorica Police Directorate. He went on to become Assistant Commander of the Ajdovščina Police Station and from 1998 to 2002 its Commander.
He continued his career at the Nova Gorica Police Directorate as an inspector within the Director’s Service and then the Head of the General Policing Section. From 2006 he has been in charge of the Uniformed Police Division of the Nova Gorica Police Directorate and deputised for the Director in his absence.
While working full-time, he completed his studies at the College of Police and Security Studies in 1998, graduated in the university programme in 2010 and obtained a Master’s degree from the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security. From 2009 to 2013 he was a lecturer in general policing and operational policing at the Police College in Tacen.
As a veteran of the war for independence, during which he was a member of the Special Police Unit of the Nova Gorica Police Directorate, he was decorated in 1991 by the Ministry of the Interior. He is also a recipient of a bronze, silver and golden shields of the Police for successful work and long-standing research and development contribution to the Police.
On 1 May 2022 he was appointed Director of the Nova Gorica Police Directorate.
