On 25 and 26 March 2026, the Ministry of the Interior hosted a delegation from the General Directorate of National Security of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria.
During the two-day meeting, representatives from the two countries discussed a coordinated action plan to deepen cooperation between law enforcement authorities over the coming two years, as well as the next steps for implementing these activities. The basis for implementing this plan is the Memorandum of Understanding on Police Cooperation, signed on 13 May 2025.

The visit began by a meeting between Director General of the Police Damjan Petrič and Director General of National Security Ali Badaoui. During the one-on-one discussion, they reiterated plans to strengthen cooperation between Slovenian and Algerian law enforcement authorities, a goal that had already been firmly established with the signing of the Memorandum.

During the official part of the meeting, Suzana Ivanović, Head of the European Affairs and International Cooperation Service at the Ministry of the Interior, highlighted the importance of this first meeting within the framework of the agreed action plan and the significance of the gradual implementation of the planned activities. Robert Črepinko from the Service of the Director General of the Police then presented the key security challenges as well as the capabilities and functioning of the Slovenian police.

The official part of the meeting was followed by a constructive discussion among national experts in the field, focusing on the implementation of activities outlined in the action plan, particularly on a more precise definition of areas of cooperation and the timeframes for their implementation. The parties agreed that further coordination would take place through established communication channels, with the European Affairs and International Cooperation Service remaining responsible for this on the part of the Ministry of the Interior.

As part of their two-day visit, the Algerian delegation also toured the National Forensic Laboratory, the Centre for Foreigners (pictured), and the Service Dog Training Section.
The members of the Algerian delegation were impressed by what they saw and expressed a desire to establish personal contacts with experts. They look forward to further cooperation and believe that their joint efforts will contribute to an even more successful achievement of their goals. At the conclusion of the successful visit, Director General Badaoui presented Director General Petrič with an official invitation to visit Algeria, thereby further confirming their readiness to strengthen cooperation.
