In recent days, two serious road accidents have occurred on the Primorska motorway, causing complete closures lasting several hours and severe traffic congestion. Such incidents and heavy post-holiday traffic put an extra strain on drivers, which is reflected in driver frustration and fatigue.

severe traffic congestion on the motorway

Extensive maintenance work and road closures, which are underway on certain sections, are necessary to ensure a safer and, in the long term, more efficient road infrastructure. In such conditions, it is crucial that drivers act responsibly, maintain a safe distance, do not change lanes unnecessarily, do not drive in the emergency lane, and always form an emergency corridor in the event of traffic congestion. Following recent accidents, the emergency services have once again warned that improper vehicle positioning is a primary cause of delayed emergency response times. Drivers are advised to check the latest traffic information before the trip and to set off in good time. They should keep plenty of fluids in the vehicle, particularly if travelling with children, elderly people or pets. When stuck in traffic, they should remain calm and follow the instructions of the competent services.

The police, together with the road operator and other services, will continue to monitor the situation and take action where necessary to ensure safety and traffic flow. We are aware that traffic jams are unpleasant, but by driving calmly and responsibly, we can all help to prevent further accidents and dangerous situations.
